The Career and Technical Education Department has prepared courses that address the technical content students need in order to live well and succeed in our ever changing technological world. Included are courses that specialize in the new technologies such as Robotics, Electronics, Software Applications, Graphic Communications, Desk Top Publishing, Web design, College Accounting and many others.

Our Career Component offers electives which will facilitate the transition to entry-level employment or further career training. Our state-of-the-art Business Education computer labs serve students in career training, the Automotive Facility is well equipped and in full operation with instruction in topics ranging from electronic diagnostics to four wheel alignment. Our Cooperative Education program continues to successfully place students in employment positions which build resumes and lead to future growth potential.

Family and Consumer Science offers a variety of courses that will help give today's youth the necessary skills to deal with their daily life experiences. Students work in new and modern lab facilities within the broad areas of interpersonal relationships, foods, clothing, housing and child development.

Students learn sound food choices based on the F.D.A. Recommended Dietary Guidelines, life-styles and ethnic backgrounds. Positive parenting skills and the ability to deal with and understand the preschooler are stressed in Child Development. Interior Design is a project-oriented course with concentration placed on the study of design principles, color schemes, floor plans, furniture styles and architecture. Fashion, fabrics, clothing construction skills and techniques in addition to related consumerism are all part of clothing courses.

A common core throughout all Family & Consumer Science courses is the development of good work habits and the importance of interpersonal relationships. Department lab courses require peer cooperation and dependency on one another for the successful completion of tasks and assignments.

Technical education is the study of practical and applied science and processes. This program of studies, formerly industrial arts, has moved away from the project concept. The major difference between the two areas is that technology education concentrates on process and problem solving instead of the traditional product method. Another major change has been the addition of equipment, which uses the new technologies in many of our lab areas. Electronic typesetting in Graphics; CAD, computer aided drafting; a new course in electronics, electronic diagnostic and four wheel alignment equipment in automotives and robotics in Power system are just a few of the advancements in recent years. This program offers all students an opportunity to experience the technical world we live in up close, in modern facilities, with an excellently trained staff.
